The project aims to create “healing social and health environments”, with interventions that are functional, beautiful and performative (visual arts, humor). Arts projects are commissioned based on the architectural character of the site, demographics, and patients’ “medical” situation with a view to transforming sterile and impersonal health care facilities into engaging environments that help stimulate the imagination of children and adolescents. RxART produces every project at no cost to the hospitals; every artist commissioned receives a fee. In 20 years RxART has completed 53 projects with 62 artists in 36 hospitals in 20 cities in the United States.
