Nati per Leggere (Born to Read) is a national programme aimed at promoting reading for families with pre-school children. The programme operates in Italy with around 800 local projects involving more than 2000 municipalities. The local programmes are promoted by librarians, pediatricians, educators, public authorities, cultural and volunteer associations. Since 1999 Nati per Leggere has had the aim of promoting reading in families from the time children are born because reading with continuous reading has a positive influence on intellectual, linguistic, emotional and relational development, with significant effects lasting throughout adult life and in family relationships.
